Van Nuys, CA – Motion Control – The new, SDLM-025-070-01-01 direct drive linear motor from Moticont, also known as an electric cylinder, features a built-in encoder, has zero backlash, zero cogging, and provides users with high acceleration, high speed, high resolution, and long life.  This direct drive linear motor features 1.25 µm (0.000049 in.) in of resolution.  This compact direct drive linear motor is just 1.00 in. (25.4 mm) in diameter and 2.75 in (69.9 mm) long.  Inside the motor housing, the linear optical quadrature encoder is directly connected to the shaft for the greatest possible accuracy.

The large 400 mm x 200 mm (15.748 in. x 7.874 in.) stage has a pattern of threaded mounting holes. The SDLM-051-095-01-05 is a powerful, compact linear actuator measuring just 2.00 in. (50.8 mm) in diameter and 3.75 in. (95.3 mm) long. It has a 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) stroke and features a resolution of 5 microns (0.000197 in.).

The integral, linear optical quadrature encoder is directly connect to the shaft for the greatest possible bandwidth and accuracy and is protected by the housing. This fully enclosed linear motor features a continuous force rating of 7.6 lbs (33.9 N) and a peak force of 24.1 lbs. (107.2 N) at 10% duty cycle.

These are easy to use, single-handed, ergonomic joysticks that provide proportional control of the X, Y, and Z axis of from one to three actuators. Low, medium, and high speed ranges are button selectable. The X, Y, and Z axis speeds are controlled by the tilt angle of the handle and the angle of rotation of the knob.

Motion Control – Voice Coil Motors &  Actuators!

Vaughan, Ontario, Canada — Motion Control – A “voice coil” is a generalized term that refers to any galvanometer-like mechanism that uses a solenoid to move an object back-and-forth within a magnetic field.

Motion Control Voice coil actuators, or non-commutated DC linear actuators, consist of a permanent magnetic field assembly (permanent magnets and ferrous steel) and a coil assembly. The current flowing through the coil assembly interacts with the permanent magnetic field and generates a force vector perpendicular to the direction of the current. The force vector can be reversed by changing the polarity of current flowing through the coil.

The LVCM-019-048-02 Linear Voice Coil Motor is a true servo motor featuring zero cogging, high accuracy, and high repeatability when operated in a closed position loop.  Voice Coil Motors (also referred to as actuators) are clean, quiet, efficient, brushless high speed linear servo motors.

  This small LVCM-019-048-02 diameter actuator has a 1.500 in (38.1 mm) stroke length and a high-force-to-size ratio of 7.4 oz (2.1 N) and a peak force of 23.5 oz. (6.5 N) at 10% duty cycle.

Motion Control – FDA/Dairy Washdown System

E. Longmeadow, MA – — Motion Control – Application  – Dairy machinery manufacturers are under intense scrutiny by FDA inspectors when it comes to FDA material and caustic washdown compliance. Recently, LM76 was called by a large US dairy packaging company to review a problematic portion of their filling line. After each shift, the filling line is washed-down, has a caustic foaming agent applied to kill bacteria and then is final rinsed. The caustic foaming agent was destroying – literally eating – the aluminum shaft supports while shafting exhibited pitting and showed signs of minor corrosion. Additionally, there were areas where product got trapped and these locations were havens for bacterial growth. Because this system was in-place and our customer was the end-user, LM76 engineers had to use direct drop-in replacement com¬ponents. What to do?

Motion Control – X-axis, Z-axis, plus Goniometer from OES!

Van Nuys, CA – — Motion Control – An extensive series of XZG Positioning Stages (X-axis, Z-axis, and Goniometer) is the newest addition to the OES (Optimal Engineering Systems, Inc.) family of high precision motion control stages. Built to order, a user can select from any combination of linear stages with travel lengths of 15 mm, 30 mm, 50 mm, and 75 mm for both the X and Z axes that feature high precision 1 mm per turn lead screws, and if required travel lengths over 100 mm are also available. Additionally, any of three goniometers with +/-10, +/-15, +/-45 degrees of travel can be selected and mounted in a horizontal (pictured) or vertical orientation.

Motion Control –  Right Angle Gearheads

Vaughan, Ontario, Canada — Motion Control — ADVANCED Motion Controls has released a new 60A continuous FlexPro servo drive model FM060-60C-CM. This model is the second “machine embedded” version in this power range adding CANopen communication to the previously released EtherCAT version.

The 60A continuous current rating means the servo drive can operate at the 60A peak rating continuously with no need for current foldback.  This feat is impressive because the new model is in the same package size as our “micro-sized” FlexPro models meaning up to four units can fit within the footprint of a business card.

Motion Control – Miniature Metric Voice Coil Motor!

Van Nuys, CA – Motion Control – Moticont has introduced a new miniature metric linear voice coil motor! The LVCM-013-008-02M Linear Voice Coil motor, also known as a moving coil motor, is only 12.7 mm (0.500 in.) in diameter. The stroke length is 3.175 mm (0.125 in.) and the length at mid-stroke is just 12.7 mm (0.50) in. long. However, this new miniature voice coil motor has a high force-to-size ratio with a continuous force of 0.86 N (3.1 oz) and a peak force of 2.73 N (9.8 oz).
