E. Longmeadow, MA – Two new series of high speed, low cost, compact linear guide systems called, “Speed Guides,TM” have been introduced by LM76. The Speed Demon OSG type and Speed Demon SG type linear guide systems are designed for speeds up to 10 m/sec. (32.8 ft/sec.), accelerations to 50 m/sec.2 and loads up to 5600 N. (1259 lbs.). These quiet, low profile guide systems are ideal for: High speed assembly and sorting operations, pick and place robots, industrial, office, and packaging machines, vacuum applications, and medical equipment (including patient care devices).

The Engineering Edge – Application – Whisper Slides for Harvesting Honey

Engineering Edge - Honey Application

Sometimes, an application leads you to an immediate, off-the-shelf solution – like this one. Harvesting bee honey is a seasonal opportunity and these systems are hauled across the country to make it happen. They need to be all weather, tough and maintenance-free. The next time you take some honey and put it in your tea, think of us – LM76.

Motion Control – CERAMICSPEED Bearing Units Are FDA Compliant!

Motion Control – Ceramic Radial Bearings are FDA Compliant

E. Longmeadow, MA – LM76 is continuing to expand its FDA compliant radial and linear bearing product lines. CERAMICSPEED Bearing Units are the latest additions. Bearings used in the food and beverage industry have to be reliable, easily cleaned, and require only minimal maintenance. CERAMICSPEED Bearing Units featuring FDA-approved Si3N4 (Silicon Nitride) balls have extremely long service life as Si3N4 balls are 2 times harder than steel balls and 4 times smoother. This means, CERAMICSPEED Bearing Units handle higher loads with less friction, resulting in longer life of the balls and the race.

We needed a bearing block that would be FDA compliant, washdown compliant and…be able to take a radioactive environment. We made a unitized bearing and mounting block combination that met application requirements. You won’t find this an any catalog!

Motion Control Application – How Do You Move Articles of Antiquity?

Very Carefully With A High Load Rail System from LM76!

E. Longmeadow, MA – — Motion Control Application -The Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) has to move articles of antiquity from one location to another. In this instance, they are moving a 5000 year old relief (hieroglyphics) weighing 8000 pounds to a new location in the Museum. Here is a frontal photo of the Relief from The Tomb of Senenuka.

Motion Control -What To Consider When Specifying A Linear Slide

Motion Control – Tutorial

Considerations when specifying a linear slide for a new or existing application.

By Mike Quinn • LM76

When a design engineer has fully defined a linear-motion application’s requirements regarding travel length, speed, force, and accuracy as well as repeatability, the next question to answer is this:

Does an off-the-shelf linear slide (or a stock linear slide from a catalog) fully satisfy the application?

motion control - linear motion products

Off-the-shelf linear slides are advantageous for their quick delivery and lower cost than that of custom components. No wonder most linear-motion designs do in fact employ off-the-shelf linear slides from various component and system suppliers.

LM76

E. Longmeadow, MA Motion — Control Components – Linear Motion – As the exclusive distributor of SAIBO Linear Motion Systems in the US, LM76 is offering the SAIBO TPE28 and TPE43 series of Partial Extension Rails. These compact, precision, smooth sliding rails are assembled with a zero clearance. The TPE28 and TPE43 Partial Extension Rail series are created using a “C” shaped external rail and an internal slider. Two rows of steel ball bearings (one on the top and bottom of the slider) travel in ball cages on hardened “V” shaped ways with four points of contact. These Partial Extension Rails are Ideally suited for applications requiring smooth motion such as: Material handling, rail systems in trains, aircraft, ships, trucks, and autonomous vehicles, wafer handling, delicate parts transfer, assembly, testing, laser machining and drilling.

The TPE28 series of Partial Extension Rails consists of 14 rails with stroke lengths from 72 mm (2.834 in) to 601 mm (23.661 in.) and supporting loads from 1224 N (275 lbs) to 15,166 N (3409 lbs) when two rails are mounted in parallel and the load is uniformly distributed between the rails. The TPE43 series of Partial Extension Rails consists of 23 rails with stroke lengths from 123 mm (4.842 in) to 1013 mm (39.881 in.) and supporting loads from 3192 N (717 lbs) to 48460 N (10,894 lbs) when two rails are mounted in parallel and the load is uniformly distributed between the rails. Stroke lengths (extension) are typically 51% of the length of the assembly.

These industry standard Partial Extension Rails are ideal for use in new and existing applications. Both the TPE28 and TPE43 Partial Extension Rails have a maximum working speed of 0.8 m/sec. (xxx in/sec )and have an operating temperature range of -20OC (-20OF) to 120OC (-20OF). For complete information on the assembly, loads, and stroke lengths for each series and additional details consult the factory.

LM76 also manufacturers a broad variety of FDA & USDA compliant bearings and shafting, in inch sizes of .25 inches to 1.5 inches, and a FDA & USDA compliant profile rail and slide system that can easily be integrated into new and existing applications. The bearing options include: Self-lubricating FDA & USDA compliant Teflon® composite bearings in a 304 stainless steel shell, and lower cost bearings with a ceramic coated shell and FDA & USDA compliant liner. Bearings are available in closed and open configurations, and are drop-in replacements for all inch sized linear ball bearings.
